Chicagoans are coastal people, if you consider Lake Michigan one of the coasts. The Lake is one of the best parts about Chicago life. And wherever there is water, there are paddlers. The Chicago Shoreline Marathon is set for September 27 this year, and training will start on May 31 at 9 a.m.

The 25-mile race will start at Calumet Harbor on the far south side and run to Leone Beach on the north side. Racers will enjoy views of the city skyline and pass by the museum campus and Navy Pier as they head north to the finish line.

Two peripheral races will take place the day of the marathon: an Eight-Mile/Two-Beach Race which consists of one round trip between Leone and Montrose Beaches, and a 4x4 Relay, in which four paddlers complete one four-mile leg which starts and ends at Leone Beach.

On May 31, paddlers will train on an out-and-back course from Montrose Avenue Beach to Leone Beach.

This is only the second year of the Shoreline Marathon’s existence. For more information and to check out an interactive race map, visit www.chicagoshorelinemarathon.com
