It’s a 5K race unlike most as it will take place on a
Saturday evening and is followed by a night of food, drinks, fashion and live
music, not to mention all the female runners are wearing skirts.
Not your typical block party, the Skirt Chaser Race is set
for June 14 in downtown Arlington Heights and is the first of its kind in
Illinois. The female runners will wear SkirtSport skirts and will start the
race in a “catch me” wave, followed by the men who will begin approximately
three minutes later, making them skirt chasers quite literally.
“It’s not your typical 5K; it’s a 5K with a twist,” said
Mark Rouse, owner of Runners High and Tri, and local retail sponsor of the
Skirt Chaser Race. “This is an event, not a Sunday race-and-go-home sort of
thing. You are paying for a good race and fun festivities,” Rouse said.
There will be a free mini-chase kids race during pre-race
pickup for children 10 and under, and they will receive medals at the finish
line to encourage youth fitness. Adult racers will also be receiving
awards. First place racer will
receive $500 at an award presentation, second and third place will receive
money as well.
The Shirt Chaser Race series began touring in February with
the first race in Arizona and will continue to travel to different states
through November. www.skirtchaser5k.com
